Days Gone fans are still holding out hope for a sequel, though it looks like one simply isn’t going to happen.

When the last PlayStation State of Play was announced many got their hopes up for a definitive version of Days Gone, as an announcement was rumoured to take place.

Unfortunately that didn’t happen, and to add insult to injury the main character of Days Gone, Deacon, was added as a VIP Bot to Astro Bot, something the character’s creator took great offence to.

Making matters worse is the news that the game’s director, Jeff Ross, doesn’t believe a sequel is ever going to happen as Sony isn’t interested in one.

Posting to X, Ross said “A lot of people still ask me if there will ever be a Days Gone sequel, so I submit this poster as evidence it will never happen. Sony higher ups like Hermen were never fans, so you won't hear about it at the PlayStation State of Play today or ever.”

Included in the post was an official image from Sony featuring characters from several of its IPs, but unfortunately Deacon wasn’t featured amidst the line-up.

Days Gone suffered at launch due to poor critic scores and several bugs and performance issues hindering player enjoyment, and while it got better over time most of the damage had already been done.

As far as Days Gone 2 is concerned, even though there’s a large group of fans who’d love for it to happen, it’s clear PlayStation is only concerned with releasing what it knows will work.

The Horizon Zero Dawn remaster is a good example of that, but never say never, as perhaps a definitive version of Days Gone is on the cards at some point and will incite a bit more love for the series, thus paving the way for a sequel.
