Sony has dropped a new free PS5 game on the PlayStation 5 store, but what’s peculiar about this is that it seems this was entirely accidental.

If you’re a PlayStation 5 user, particularly one subscribed to PlayStation Plus, you’re probably quite used to getting new free games to play.

What isn’t as common, however, is when games are made free to keep and add to your library entirely accidentally, which appears to be the case with this latest blunder.

As spotted by Push Square last week, the game CarX Street started showing up for PlayStation Plus users in Europe as ‘discounted’ down to £0.00, effectively meaning you can add the game to your library at no extra cost.

It seems the promotion was applied and intended to last until 10th September.

However, given the fact that the text on the store referenced a 50% discount, it’s quite obvious that this was a mistake.

The error was first spotted on Wednesday last week, and appeared to not be fixed until Saturday. Meaning thousands of gamers were able to add it to their libraries in that time.

Now that the issue has been resolved, it’s showing the correct price of £24.99 here in the United Kingdom.

As for those who had already claimed the offer while it was free, it remains to be seen if Sony is going to revoke access to the game, or instead honour the mistake and let players keep it.

As Push Square reports, the game is still able to be downloaded and launched for those who claimed the offer.

CarX Street came out on PS5 in July and has been met with positive reception. As of right now, the game has an average rating of 4.15 stars, with most users giving the game a 5 star rating.

“Conquer mountain slopes, vast highways, and bustling city streets in CarX Street,” reads the game’s official description on the store. “Build the car of your dreams with fine-tuning that reveals the full potential of CarX Technology© physics. Take part in thrilling single or multiplayer races, and enjoy realistic gameplay and dynamic controls.”
