Rumours surrounding a potential launch date for the PlayStation 6 are continuing to swirl online and many of us are still wondering why the next generation needs to happen so soon.
The past year has seen multiple rumours regarding the launch of the PlayStation 6 with reports revealing that the next-generation console is currently in the works at Sony.
However, with the PlayStation 5 still very much in the infancy of its lifespan, many users are not ready to move on just yet.

The PlayStation 5 first launched back in 2020 but thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and stock shortages, many users did not get their hands on the console for many months later.
Not only that but last year saw the PlayStation 5 Pro launch with the mid-generation update giving players the chance to experience all the PS5 had to offer but with a bit more power.
So, why do we already need the PlayStation 6?
Well, according to one user over on r/playstation, the PS6 is rumoured for a 2027 release.

“Playstation 6 is supposed to be coming out in 2027, what's the point?” They asked.
“Apparently a PS6 is supposed to be coming out in 2027. Why?
A lot of my friends are on the previous generations consoles. A lot of new games accommodate for the PS4 and PS5 and that isn't going to change any time soon.
Also the PS5 exclusive line up has been extremely weak.”

The main issue regarding the PS5 is its lack of exclusives so it is not too far-fetched to believe that this will also be an issue with the PlayStation 6.
Either way, it was not long before fellow PlayStation users took to the comments with their thoughts.
User SvenLorenz replied, “I don't think we'll see a PS6 that soon.
The slow start of this generation with far too many cross-generational games, plus the death of Xbox as a competitor will allow Sony to extend this generation by a few years.”

Another user thinks that increased prices will play a large part in the future of gaming.
“I’m on the same boat here,” they wrote.
“I catch myself playing more PS4 games than PS5 now with these higher prices coming. It’s all a mess in gaming right now.”
The PlayStation 6 launch date is still unknown but it seems as though players still want to stick with the PlayStation 5 for a while longer.
