PlayStation 5 Gamers Hit With Update So Big You'll Need To Delete Some Stuff

Launched just last year and met with somewhat mixed reviews, one PlayStation 5 title is welcoming a free update.

The catch? The update is pretty huge.

The game is Black Myth: Wukong, an action RPG developed by China-based developers Game Science.

Players would take on the role of the Destined One, a staff-wielding monkey, who is tasked with embarking on a journey to recover six relics corresponding to Sun Wukong’s six senses.

As mentioned, Black Myth: Wukong was met with mixed reviews upon its launch but still managed to sell an impressive 10 million copies, meaning that a spin-off game is now in the works, titled Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

Now a year on from launch and Game Science has released a free update for Black Myth: Wukong on the PlayStation 5.

The patch itself is relatively minor, only offering bug fixes and performance optimisation so it makes even less sense that this free update is a whopping 93.5GB.

That’s right, PlayStation 5 users will have to find almost 100GB of storage in order to download this free update with the official Black Myth X Twitter account having the following to say:

"Due to differences in file storage methods, the patch on PS5 will require a relatively large amount of space (approximately 93.5 GB)."

It is also worth noting that the base installation for Black Myth: Wukong is already pretty substantial at 130GB so, with this new update included, the file size will reach in excess of 210GB which is pretty hefty for a standard PlayStation 5.

However, it seems as though Black Myth X also has a suggestion if you are struggling to make the space.

"If the update cannot be completed due to insufficient storage or other reasons, you may continue playing the current version or try deleting the game and redownloading it," they shared.

This update goes live today, 13 October, and will also affect PC players who play with mods.

“Installed mods may cause compatibility issues, preventing you from launching the game or triggering error pop-ups during gameplay,” the Tweet continues.

“We recommend uninstalling the installed mods and verifying the integrity of the game files before restarting the game.”

So there you have it.

Hopefully your PlayStation 5 storage is up to this massive update if you wish to continue playing Black Myth: Wukong ahead of its spin-off title which is set to be released some time in the future.
