Animal Crossing 9/10 cozy, cheaper alternative locks in PlayStation 5 release

The PlayStation 5 isn’t home to quite as many cozy life sims as, say, PC or Nintendo Switch consoles.

Stardew Valley, My Time at Sandrock, Coral Island, and Palia are among the PS5’s best examples.

Another offering is now on the way, though, and it’s one that’ll most definitely appeal to fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Luma Island is officially coming to PlayStation 5 consoles, having originally launched on PC in November of 2024.

Developed by Feel Free Games, Luma Island is your classic cozy life sim, whisking you away to a picturesque locale where you’ll farm, mine, decorate, and more.

“Seeking a fresh start, you've bought Old Man Jeffrey's farm and rustic caravan on Luma Island,” begins the game’s synopsis.

“Explore, craft, mine, fish, uncover secrets, build your dream farm and collect magical Lumas in an awesome one to four player adventure.”

Yes, you can enjoy Luma Island both solo and via online multiplayer - and it’s a cozy sim that’s almost completely devoid of grind.

Unlike other examples in the genre, Luma Island features no stamina mechanic, no inventory limit, nor any “checks on your creativity”, allowing you to do what you want, when you want.

The game’s unique quirk is those aforementioned Lumas. As you track Lumas down and hatch them, you’ll unlock unique new abilities which should help you with all of your jobs across the farm.

If you want to grow your quaint farm to a sprawling estate, you’ll need to hunt for resources and learn a profession, with fishing, mining, cooking, and more all being great vocations.

Luma Island features optional combat with players able to travel across the globe

Luma Island also has a keen sense of adventure; you can travel to “lush forests, soaring mountains, dense jungles” and a pirate cove, overcoming threats and partaking in unique minigames.

There are three main ways you can choose to play the game. Cozy Mode features no combat, while Adventure Mode does, albeit at a “chill” level. Then, there’s Hero Mode for those who want to face off against stronger enemies.

Announcing Luma Island’s imminent arrival on PlayStation 5, the team at Feel Free Games confirmed that the game has already welcomed in an impressive 800,000 players on PC.

The team hasn't yet locked in a release date, so we’re going to have to wait a touch longer for this one.

I can tell you, though, that Luma Island boasts a very respectable player score of 90% over on Steam.

“One of the best games I've ever played. A 9.9 out of 10 experience,” one player wrote.

Another added, “Very very relaxing. So much to do, treasure hunting, farming, growing crops, fishing, building. Love this game,” while someone remarked, “I think Luma Island is one of the best cozy games, but it doesn't really get the recognition it deserves. I'd definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Stardew Valley and similar games.”

Pricing on PS5 is also yet to be confirmed, but Luma Island holds an RRP of just £15.99 / $19.99 on PC, so it’s much cheaper than some of the more well-known cozy gaming options out there.
