Two Xbox exclusives are exclusive no more, following announcements that they’ll be launching on PlayStation 5 later this year.

As revealed in a press release on the official Age of Empire website, both Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold will be coming to PlayStation 5 in 2025.

“Playing across all platforms is a game-changer for our franchise, and it’s all about bringing our community together,” stated Michael Mann, studio head at AoE’s developer World's Edge.

“This isn’t just about convenience—it’s about growing and strengthening the Age community. With cross-play, we’re creating one global battlefield where every strategy, every empire, and every player matters.”

Age of Mythology: Retold will be launching on PS5 later this month on 27 February, whereas Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is set to land on the console "this spring."

Take a look at Age of Mythology: Retold in action below.

In a thread on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, users shared their reactions to the news of the ports' announcements.

“Swear to god this is like some bizarro timeline where Microsoft is filling the gaps in Sony library on W completely different platform,” commented user -PVL93-.

“If you told me this was going to become a regular occurrence five years ago, I'd call you crazy.”

“2025 is going to be a slam dunk for the PS5 if all of the reported and confirmed Microsoft multiplatform games [plus] PlayStation Studios games such as Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach [plus] GTA VI all make their 2025 release windows,” replied user Bolt_995.

“Not to mention the other bangers coming out of third-party studios this year.”

Time to start taking bets as to which Xbox games will be landing on PlayStation hardware next.

Halo: Master Chief Collection and Starfield seem like a sure bet at this point, but I’m more curious as to whether or not Gears of War: E-Day will be coming to PS5 at launch as well…
