A PlayStation 5 gamer has urged us to check our PS5 and TV settings to ensure we’re getting the best out of our console.

Video gaming can be a wonderful thing, especially in the modern generation with consoles such as Sony’s newly released PlayStation 5 Pro. The new PS5 Pro is capable of an increased resolution and framerates making our games look and perform better than ever.

However, sometimes we might not be getting the most out of our consoles, including the original PlayStation 5 and the default 4K TV settings, as brought to our attention by Reddit user Dipstickpattywack.

“Today I was looking at the video settings and noticed I couldn’t have 2160p with HDR on because “my device didn’t support it” even though my TV and HDMI cable do support 4K HDR,” they began to explain. “Turns out my TV HDMI settings had the “deep colour” option disabled by default. So I enabled the option and the difference is night and day.”

“Anyway, if you haven’t ever checked your video settings and have a big fancy 4K TV you may wanna check your TV and PS5 settings to make sure you aren’t limiting your settings,” they continued.

“I was fooled because it was capable of 1080p HDR with the default settings which triggered my TV to show the HDR indicator as being on, so I just figured it was displaying 4KHD.”

Obviously, TV settings can vary on model and brand. However, it’s always worth checking your PlayStation 5 ‘Screen and Video’ settings, just in case.

To check that you have the correct set-up, first select ‘Settings’ from your PlayStation 5 home screen located in the cog found in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Now scroll down until you find ‘Screen and Video’ and select it.

From here you will be able to toggle settings such as video output, resolution, refresh rate, HDR, deep colour output, RGB range and more.

You may also want to check if you have a compatible high-speed HDMI cable to ensure you’re getting the most out of your consoles whether it’s a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.
