It has been over five years since the PlayStation 5 first launched but with some players still choosing to stick with their PlayStation 4 console, it seems as though Sony is taking drastic measures to encourage that upgrade.
Launching back in November 2020, the PlayStation 5 had a less-than-smooth launch.
Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, stock shortages, and scalpers, getting your hands on a PlayStation 5 was almost impossible for the first few months of its lifespan.
As a result, it is perhaps no surprise that many of us chose to stick with the PlayStation 4.

Home to some incredible exclusives such as Bloodborne, Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and more, the PlayStation 4 is widely regarded as one of Sony’s most successful consoles.
However, with the PlayStation 4 recently celebrating its 12-year anniversary, it seems as though Sony is looking to the future and with rumours of the PlayStation 6 being in the not-too-distant horizon, the company is pushing for that final upgrade.
This was recently reported by @Zuby_Tech over on Twitter who shared a message from PlayStation itself.
Sent on 20 January, the message reads as follows:
“Whether you’re catching up with hits from 2025 like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, ARC Raiders and Ghost of Yotei or getting ready for the most-anticipated games of 2026 including SAROS, 007 First Light, Nioh 3, and so much more, now’s the perfect time to upgrade to a PS5 console.”

PS4 Support Could Be Coming To An End
The message comes alongside a QR code which reportedly takes you to the “latest deals on PS5 consoles”.
It was not long before fellow PlayStation users came forward with their thoughts on the latest Sony development.
“I mean it is time to hang it up soon, networks will be shut down like others were,” one user shared.
However another user shares that the PS4 may be their last PlayStation era.
“I would say yes but once I’m done with my PS4, I’m done with Sony.
“Been around since the PS2 and I think I’m just gonna stick with Xbox/PC/Switch 2.”
It does seem as though it is finally time to say goodbye to the PlayStation 4, especially following the news that some of its most popular features are set to be sunsetted.
Also, on an unrelated note, it is interesting to see that Sony did not include Grand Theft Auto VI as a potential 2026 release in its message.
Could this mean another potential delay?
