PlayStation 2 voted best video game console of all time in huge poll

PlayStation 2 voted best video game console of all time in huge poll

Sony's PlayStation 2 has been voted as the best gaming console by fans.

The PlayStation 2 has been voted as the best video game console of all time in a poll, and what a worthy winner it is.

I have fond childhood memories of the PlayStation 2. I’d love to know how many hours I spent driving around in The Simpsons: Hit & Run, not even necessarily completing any missions. At that age, I was quite satisfied just treating the game like a driving simulator. My other personal favourites included Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue and SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Pants - although I’m going to go out on a limb and say that those titles likely didn’t influence voters into declaring the PS2 to be the best console in existence.

Take a trip down memory lane as GAMINGbible counts through its favourite games from the PlayStation 2 era.

When most people think back to the golden days of the PlayStation 2 era, I’m imagining they’re thinking of titles like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Silent Hill 2, Final Fantasy X, Persona 3, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and Jak 3.

The poll in question was carried out by site PixlParade with the PlayStation 2 garnering over 17% of the vote. The Nintendo Switch trails behind with almost 14% of vote, with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System rounding out the top 3 with just over 12% of the total votes.

In descending order, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Nintendo 64, GameCube, PlayStation 3, PlayStation, and Wii rounded out the top 10. I’m not surprised to see the Nintendo Switch ranking highly. It’s approaching seven years old and is still as popular as ever. With rumours that a Switch successor could be landing this year though, it’s going to be interesting to see what’s next for Nintendo.
