Reports claim that Nintendo will drastically reduce production of the Switch 2 due to plummeting sales, with some concerns of a price hike.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was released in July 2025, and by all accounts, it's been a huge success for the Japanese console manufacturer with impressive sales across the world. Well, perhaps a part from one particular country.
In January this year, it was reported that the Nintendo Switch 2 had outsold the GameCube since its launch, and then the following month, it was reported that the newest console had outsold the DS handheld. Oh, and the Wii U, but that doesn't really count for much, to be fair.
So, with the Nintendo Switch 2 apparently struggling in sales, it is contradictory to previous reports, and should it be a reason for Nintendo to be concerned?
Why Is the Nintendo Switch 2 Reportedly Struggling?
According to the media outlet, Bloomberg, in recent months, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been underperforming in terms of sales in the United States. So much so that Nintendo is reportedly considering lowering the production of units by 30%.

This 30% reduction would mean that production of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles would come down from six million to four million units. Yet, despite this, there’s a good chance that the console will continue to achieve positive sales across the world.

Could the Nintendo Switch 2 Get a Price Hike?
At this time, we can only speculate. However, if Nintendo is putting fewer Switch 2 consoles on the shelves, it wouldn't surprise me if that was used as an excuse to increase its retail cost to compensate.
Why Are Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Struggling in the US?
Again, we can only speculate. Some could say that the increased taxes on goods coming into the United States, issued by President Donald Trump, could be a reason. Furthermore, the war in Iran could also have an impact on cargo ships, potentially struggling to come in and out of the East/West Asian region.
That all being said, Nintendo hasn't responded to these reports publicly, so they should all be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
If you have been on the fence, deciding whether or not to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2, if possible, it might be a good idea to pick up the console sooner rather than later, just in case there is a price hike on the horizon.
