Marvel's Spider-Man 2 team ensured the entire game lives on disc, no extra downloads

The launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is nearly upon us, in fact, it’s just days away and fans are getting hyped for the sequel to the 2018 PS4 title.

Developed by Insomniac Games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 takes place roughly 10 months after the events of the Miles Morales standalone story. As with any good sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 promises to be bigger and better than its predecessor, as emphasised in our review.

In our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we said: “Insomniac Games has crafted yet another heartfelt Spider-Man story bursting with twists, turns, and show-stopping spectacle. While I wish it had taken a few more risks in changing up its open-world formula, it’s tricky to remember those criticisms when I’m diving from the top of the Empire State Building and firing out a web line at the last second as I swing away in search of ass to kick.”

It’s fair to say that a certain level of high quality is expected from Insomniac Games, after all, it has brought us the likes of Spyro the Dragon as well as Ratchet & Clank and more. Furthermore, with Marvel’s Wolverine on the way, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of the studio.

So it should come as no surprise that Insomniac Games has gone to great efforts to ensure that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the best possible game when it launches on PS5 later this week. We know that every game should be released in a good state. Sadly, as we all know, that’s not always the case.

Insomniac Games has promised those who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 physically, that the entire game will be on disc with no extra downloads. However, the studio has still encouraged fans to download update 1.001.002 at launch. If the game is bought digitally, it will be good to go once the full download is completed.

“The disc contains the entire game from start to finish with no patch or online requirement,” tweeted the developer. In relation to the launch update, Insomniac Games added: “This update features polish to the gold master version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 available on disc, which improves the opening sections of the game and includes other general refinements to your Spidey experience, including some additional Accessibility Options.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on Friday, 20 October for PlayStation 5.
