Some of our favourite classic games getting delisted is always a heartbreaking turn of events.

Unfortunately, it is pretty common considering that licenses can expire and IPs can swap hands.

However, when one returns from the dead, the magic returns and that is the case for this classic PlayStation 2 and Xbox title.

So which title is returning from the dead this time?

It is none other than Cold Fear, the survival-horror game first released way back in 2005.

Originally published by Ubisoft, Cold Fear may not be as popular as the Resident Evil franchise but it definitely has its similarities as one of the original survival-horror titles.

Developed by Darkworks, the story follows Tom Hansen, a member of the United States Coast Guard who comes to the aid of a Russian whaler in the Bering Strait.

However, what he uncovers is a mysterious parasite who has turned the crew into zombie-like creatures and it is up to him to stop them making their way to land.

Cold Fear was met with mixed reviews after being compared to Resident Evil 4 which also released that same year.

However, as with many classics, it has gained favour over time which makes it all the more exciting that it has returned.

Another Classic Returns

Available to purchase once more courtesy of GOG, Cold Fear is finally back which makes it all the more worthwhile considering the 2024 classic was delisted from Steam just weeks ago.

As the PC version was the most accessible, this meant that fans would have to dig out their PlayStation 2 and Xbox in order to play it.

However, GOG has once again saved the day and its PC port is now available once more.

Available under new publisher Atari, Cold Fear is now readily available once more and is perfect for those seeking a classic-style survival-horror.

Atari acquiring the rights to Cold Fear may also spell good news for the future.

The publisher could bring the title back to Steam or it could even have plans to restore the IP in the form of a remaster, remake, or even a sequel.

For now, Atari is yet to share its plans but it is definitely an exciting possibility for fans of one of the earliest survival-horror titles.

Not only that but it also spells positive news for other classic Xbox and PlayStation titles which could also be revived in the future thanks to publishers such as Atari.
