Baldur's Gate 3 PlayStation 5: Dev responds to last-minute delay fears

Larian Studios didn't come to play, so don't mess with 'em!

With Baldur’s Gate 3 only a couple of weeks away from its PlayStation 5 release, fans are starting to panic that the game will have a last minute delay. It’s a fear the devs simply won’t entertain.

Naturally, tensions are high, especially because Starfield releases on the same day that the BG3 PS5 version goes live. However, that doesn’t mean Larian Studios are going to let unfounded fears ruin the countdown to one of the best video games of all time – Metacritic declared it, so it must be true.

Unsure about adventuring? Then watch the BG3 trailer!

On 19 August, a Twitter user posted a divisive tweet that compared the launch plans of Starfield to BG3. It read: “It seems Starfield is more ready than Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5. You can already preload Starfield on Xbox while you have to wait [until] 31 August to preload BG3 on PS5. Both have the same release date. Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 version having trouble? It seems so.”

The main point they were making, albeit in a long winded way, was that Larian Studios' game could end up having a last minute delay. And as we all know, fans don’t like that idea one bit; delays are the kind of thing that leads to angry mobs and review-bombing. Consequently, smelling even a single whiff of a BG3 delay rumour is enough to get Larian Studios fired up and ready to defend their game.

Michael Douse, Larian Studios director of publishing, responded with a short but very to the point explanation: “We want people to have the latest patches, because that seems like the consumer friendly thing to do. It’s not very complicated.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive game, and with its first patch promising 1,000 bug fixes, it makes sense to wait until closer to the PS5 launch date before opening up pre-loads. This is about making sure that PS5 players have an experience equal to their PC counterparts, which, as far as we’re concerned, is commendable.

So, allow Douse to lay your fears to rest – as of right now, there’s no cause for concern when it comes to delays. Until we’re told otherwise, by Larian Studios itself, Baldur’s Gate 3 will launch on 6 September for PlayStation 5.
