PC Gamers Can Grab $60 Free Game, Limited Time Only

2K is giving away a free game that normally costs $60, but you only have a limited time to claim it.

You ought to be familiar with 2K, as it’s been behind some of the most popular video games and franchises of all time.

Games like Civilization, Mafia, and Borderlands are just a few of the most popular franchises that are under 2K’s belt, with each one releasing a new entry as recently as last year.

One franchise that hasn’t quite received any attention in recent years is X-COM, though. X-COM is a series that goes way back to 1994, but if you’re acquainted with the series, you’re probably more familiar with 2K’s 2012 reboot and its sequels.

X-COM is a series of science-fiction strategy games where you ward off an alien invasion using soldiers of an elite government organisation.

The reboot series, relabelled XCOM (now without the hyphen, for some reason), currently has three entries, with the latest one XCOM: Chimera Squad releasing in 2020. Might I also add these are some of the best games made in the last 15 years?

Grab XCOM 2 Free For The Next Day

If you’re keen to check XCOM out, 2K is currently giving away XCOM 2 on PC with all Amazon Prime subscriptions. This one is often regarded as the best of the three, and is well worth picking up.

With an active Amazon Prime subscription, you can now pick up XCOM 2 via the Prime Gaming app. However, you only have until tomorrow, 7 January, to claim it.

Once you do that, you’ll be granted a code for the GOG version of the game, which can then be played DRM-free via GOG’s platform, and doesn’t require you to stay subscribed to Amazon Prime to keep it.

Here’s the blurb on XCOM 2: “Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered.

“Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

“Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, and facing impossible odds, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to ignite a global resistance, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.”
