If you’re in need of something new to play on PC, then you’re going to want to grab KeepUp Survival before time runs out.

Witte Studio’s base-building exploration game is free to claim on PC via the Epic Games Store, but it’s not actually a part of Epic’s weekly rotating free game line-up.

Instead, developers have simply opted themselves to make the game free for a limited-time; it’s available until 5pm BST on July 19 and if claimed, is yours to keep.

Players of survival hit Valheim should get a hit out of KeepUp Survival as it very much makes use of all of the classic survival tropes.

“A global pandemic has shaken humanity. On this remote island once stood a secret research facility that was meant to develop a cure, but something went terribly wrong,” begins the synopsis.

“During the global chaos, an evacuation flight was launched, but navigation data became unreliable, communication systems failed, and fuel supplies ran low.

“The aircraft lost control and crashed near an unknown island, by chance... or perhaps not? You survive the crash and find yourself alone in what appears to be a peaceful yet abandoned world.”

In an attempt to survive, players will need to gather resources, fend off threats, craft, and establish a base.

While KeepUp Survival claims to be a “relaxed” game with no set goals, there is a narrative running throughout.

You can also nab a free expansion to fend off cursed experiments on Steam

Players will stumble upon the voice recordings of a woman known as Jill who was on the island before the disaster.

“She speaks of strange events, experiments conducted within the research facility, and something hidden deep beneath the surface,” devs tease.

“Inside the facility, you uncover traces of those experiments... remnants of something that was once human, but is no longer entirely human. The research created something that should never have existed.”

You can likely now see where The Last of Us-esque elements come into play, plus the renaturalisation of a once-manned land always evokes the same kind of imagery as Naughty Dog’s famed franchise.

You can’t actually face off against any zombies in the base game, despite finding traces of them, but there is a free beta running for a zombie expansion which can be nabbed from Steam.

KeepUp Survival is an open-world game and features no fixed ending, so the runtime is essentially as long as you’d like it to be, making the game excellent value considering it’s free.

This doesn’t have to be a lonely experience either, as you can tame dogs as loyal hunting companions.

Hunger, thirst, and exhaustion levels will need managing, there are various traversal vehicles to make use of for exploration, plus the game boasts a day and night cycle.

KeepUp Survival typically retails for $14.99 / £12.79 so it being free is a neat little saving.

It is one of those titles that splits gamers. Over on Steam, some have labelled it as “janky” while others hail KeepUp Survival as “beautiful” and “immersive”.

Given that it won’t cost you a penny, there’s no harm in claiming this one ahead of July 19 and giving it a go yourself.
