Stardew Valley fans need to check out this free expansion that adds a ton of new content to the ever-popular life-sim game.

Originally released in 2016, developed and published by ConcernedApe, Stardew Valley is the prime example of what an indie darling is about. Created by a single developer, Eric Barone, Stardew Valley has immersive gameplay and gorgeous visuals, it’s accessible to all and most importantly, it’s a fantastic game.

“You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life,” reads the description of the game. “Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?”

Furthermore, Stardew Valley has been supported with a wealth of free content updates that have continually improved the game on what was already a fantastic title to begin with. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of its successor, Haunted Chocolatier.

However, not only has Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone been generous with free content over the years, but the modding community has also been chipping in and breathing new life into the beloved game.

One such mod created by maddogofblank (with help from TheFrenchDodo and Mad Dog) is ‘Bear Family Custom NPCs - an add-one for East Scarp’ and it's free to download right now via Nexusmods.

As the name of the mod suggests, this expansion centres around the Bear (humans, not the wild animal) family introducing five new NPCs and a dog into the East Scarp location of Pelican Town. It also brings new missions, recipes, items and even romances.

Sadly, as is the nature of most mods, ‘Bear Family Custom NPCs’ is a PC exclusive. For the rest of us, we can enjoy Stardew Valley as originally intended on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

The aforementioned Haunted Chocolatier does not have a release date at the time of writing.
