I’ve long remarked that the two best Star Wars games are the RPG bangers that came from BioWare in the early 2000s.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel captured the essence of Star Wars, placing the player in a truly expansive galaxy, with all the little details long-time fans wanted.

To be honest, BioWare could do no wrong at the time. They knocked out these superb RPGs and captured the attention of millions.

God knows if we’ll ever actually get the remake that was revealed many moons ago, so if you’re hankering for some Star Wars goodness, both Knights of the Old Republic and its follow-up are currently free on Epic Games Store.

I can’t express how much these games meant to me as a Star Wars fan.

Just the simple joy of building your own lightsaber was peak, as it was something many of us dreamed of as a kid.

On top of this, you had robust combat options, brilliant dialogue, and a genuinely engrossing story that highlighted the balance of Jedis and the Sith.

The fact that you can snag these games for free - if you act within the next 72 hours - is ludicrous to a much younger version of me.

If you can’t tell from my excitement and hyperbole, these games mean a lot, and I’d recommend them to everyone.

Of course, it would be remiss of me to not note that visually, they feel as dated as they seem.

Graphics snobs will likely steer clear, but they’d be missing brilliance.

I doubt we’ll ever actually see the remake in the flesh, which is a shame, but there’s no need for it, when the originals still feel so good to play.

And I won’t finish this article without noting that BioWare also created one of my favourite RPGs, Jade Empire. Now, that game needs a remaster.
