A new Red Dead Redemption 2 mod lets you recruit two companions at once, allowing you to form your own three-person posse as you explore Rockstar Games’ Wild West. It makes the Dutch van der Linde gang feel even more like a tight knit group of rebellious outlaws.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely considered one of the greatest video games of all time, perhaps even better than the mighty GTA V.
While we wait to see how it compares to the upcoming GTA VI, Rockstar's open-world classic still holds up incredibly well today, especially thanks to its wealth of mods that continue to enhance the player experience. Speaking of GTA VI, players believe they’ve found another connection with RDR2.
Roll with your own posse in this free RDR2 mod
The mod is called ‘Ultimate Companion System’, and it pretty much does exactly what you’d expect. It’s created by bhrdev, and it’s free to download now via NexusMods.
“The Ultimate Companion mod for RDR2! Recruit any enforcer of the Van Der Linde gang and take them with you on adventures!” reads the description of ‘Ultimate Companion System’. Each companion will also have a set of commands, so you can instruct them what to do and when to do it - such as getting them to follow, wait, attack and more.

Here’s everything the RDR2 Ultimate Companion mod does
It allows you to recruit up to two companions at any one time. Sure, there are plenty of moments in Red Dead Redemption 2 when you’re accompanied by multiple companions, but that’s not all the time. This mod seamlessly changes that.
It’s worth noting that this mod will only work as Arthur in chapters one to six and will not work in any additional chapters (trying to be spoiler-free). However, the mod creator is working on changing that.
In total, there will be 18 recruitable companions, including: Abigail, Bill, Charles, Dutch, Hosea, Javier, John, Karen, Kieran, Lenny, Mary-Beth, Micah, Molly, Sadie, Sean, Susan, Tilly, and Uncle.
According to the description of the mod, your companions won’t idly stand by; if there’s an event nearby, they will react to it. The mod creator uses fishing as an example. Companions will not only fish with you but will react to your catch.

Companions will also accompany you on their own horse, not a random horse. They will, of course, aid you in a battle, but they’ll also be more reactive to the situation at hand. If in a bar fight, they will help you beat up the other NPCs and match your force. So, I guess that should mean they won't instantly start shooting up the saloon if you punch someone in the face.
They will also actively assist you on bounties and if the law comes after you, they’ll watch your back. All in all, it seems like a very sophisticated mod and if it all works as well as it sounds, it would be great to see some of these features implemented in Red Dead Redemption 3 (which is yet to be announced).
That all being said, as is the case with all Red Dead Redemption 2 mods, this is exclusive to the PC version of the game.
