Modder 'Big Boy' is currently working on an RTX mod for Need For Speed: Most Wanted. The aim of the project is to add path tracing effects to the game. Path tracing is the next step for ray tracing and is currently being championed by Cyberpunk 2077.

After debuting the latest trailer for the mod, Big Boy is showing off recent updates. This is still very much a work in progress as we can see from the video clip that many of the models still need high-quality textures.

If you're into racing games, Forza Motorsport is a stunner.

There's no doubting the game looks brilliant running through the mod. Light sources and reflections feel truly modern. Seeing the light play across the glossy paint of the Chevrolet in the video it shows just how much of an improvement this mod aims to be. Of course, we don't see any fine particles or light bloom here - perhaps that will come in a follow up video shot at nighttime.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted is a fan favourite from the franchise and many players have been begging for an official remaster of the game. While there is no word about if or when that might happen, modders will continue taking it into their own hands.

These 'RTX remixes' are becoming more and more popular in recent months as players yearn to see their favourite games tackle the latest technology. While these trailers are a welcome sight, it's worth taking the footage with a pinch of salt as it's likely to change rapidly as new technology and ideas are utilised.

Racing games are leading the way for modders to remaster as they're usually the genre that takes a lot of pride in their visuals. We only have to look at the recent installments of Gran Turismo or Forza to see how AAA developers are pushing boundaries. Let's hope some more remasters appear over the horizon soon.
