Need For Speed: Most Wanted has been lovingly remastered for PC by fans, and you need to check it out for yourself.

I love Forza: Motorsport and Gran Turismo as much as the next guy, but we definitely need some more variety in our racing games. We could be on the verge of getting a new Burnout game if this teaser is to be believed, but the real prize would be a new Need For Speed game.

Check out Need For Speed: Most Wanted below

Simply put, Need For Speed is a classic street-racing series pretty similar to Forza Horizon. Instead of racing up and down designated race tracks, you barrel through towns and cities at breakneck speed, evading the police and making a mad dash for first place.

It was brilliant, hectic fun and while future games tried to improve the formula with new twists and gameplay mechanics you can’t deny the simplicity of getting from A to B as fast as you can is what makes a racer so good.

Now one fan has remastered Need For Speed: Most Wanted using RTX Remix, and it looks fantastic. Posting a video of the remaster to their YouTube channel, a side by side comparison is like night and day. The new version is far cleaner, with changes made to the lighting and visual effects for a clearer image. It’s not perfect as it’s still in early development, but with a bit more work it could very well become the definitive version of the game.

The last Need For Speed game to release was Need For Speed Unbound, which was good but wasn’t met with overwhelmingly positive reviews.

That being said, a full-on remake of one of the first games, or the ever-popular Need For Speed: Underground 2 could be just what the series needs to bring it up to the prestige of Forza and Gran Turismo.
