Photorealism should by no means be the gold standard of the games industry, but it does have its place.

When paired with the right concept, photorealism can truly elevate a narrative and that’s certainly the case with The Last of Us.

This is a franchise that taps into the most complex of human emotions.

Love, loss, hatred, fear … you name it.

The attempt to make the characters and environments look as lifelike as possible, in this instance, simply deepens our connection to the story.

Naughty Dog has always led the way when it comes to photorealism but according to one modder, there are a few improvements that can be made.

Enter the ‘TLOU - Definitive Photorealistic’ mod from NexusMods user DIRECREEP.

If you haven’t yet sampled The Last of Us Part II Remastered, you should. Take a look at our review below.

This mod does exactly what it says on the tin.

It improves “clarity, contrast, colours and depth, and without changing the game’s art direction”.

“This mod Is for those who want their game to look better but WITHOUT RUINING the developers' work! Excellent for OLED displays, mini LED and HDR monitors,” the creator writes.

It’s totally free to download from NexusMods but you will, of course, need to be playing The Last of Us Part I on PC.

In case you missed it, a sneaky tease for The Last of Us Part III seemingly made its way online recently.

Season two of the HBO series is also set to land next year in 2025.

Kaitlyn Dever has joined the cast as Abby, alongside Isabella Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, and Spencer Lord as Owen.

Jeffrey Wright, who portrayed Isaac in the game, will reprise his role.
