While console gamers are looking forward to the highly anticipated release of GTA VI this November, PC gamers are left wondering when their time will come.

There’s no question that the arrival of the next entry in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series is by far the biggest launch of 2026. In fact, it’s the biggest launch in quite some years. So, it’s no wonder that video game developers and publishers are scrambling to stay as far away from GTA VI as possible.

That being said, despite GTA VI being delayed on more than one occasion, it now looks set in stone that it will stick to its current release date of November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

However, what about PC gamers? Rockstar Games hasn't announced this port yet, despite GTA VI first being revealed in December 2023.

Former Rockstar Games producer John Ricchio, who was with the company between 2003 and 2014, and has worked on the likes of Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, and GTA V, has a theory. That theory is a lack of development priorities on the PC platform, rather than interest. After all, the PC platform has a huge audience.

When speaking on the YouTube channel Kiwi Talkz, Ricchio said that Rockstar Games typically prioritises its time and budget on console versions due to “limited resources” related to the size of the development team.

Ricchio also states that development on consoles is more straightforward compared to the complications of PC, where almost every gamer's system is somewhat different to others, rather than knowing exactly what you’re catering to with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

GTA 6 PC release delay follows Rockstar Games' familiar pattern

Over the years, Rockstar Games has typically released PC ports after consoles, with GTA V arriving roughly 18 months after PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived just over a year later.

Thankfully, at least from Rockstar Games, nothing will compare to the delay of the original Red Dead Redemption, which was first released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010 but arrived on PC a whopping 14 years later.

What’s the story of GTA VI?

“Vice City, USA,” reads the synopsis of the game. “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them.

“But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”

Hopefully, following the launch of GTA VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026, PC gamers will only have to wait a year, maybe two years maximum. We’ll keep you posted when Rockstar Games drops a release date for the PC port.
