Bearing in mind Bloodborne released all the way back in February 2015 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, it's really quite impressive just how much of a hold it has over the gaming community.

The game is continually mentioned whenever fans get half a chance to shoehorn it in to conversations, and there's a strong argument to say that it might be the most highly requested sequel around right now (apart from possibly Half Life 3).

Unfortunately for all of those expecting FromSoftware to come up trumps any time soon, a sequel is certainly not on the immediate horizon and you'll have to keep replaying the original (or any one of the developer's very impressive slate) to get your fix.

That said, PC players are left out in the cold somewhat, with no official version of the game ever releasing for the platform. The only way around that is to use an emulator, and one of the leading versions has just received an update that should make Bloodborne available to more players than ever.

As first reported by PC Gamer, PlayStation 4 emulator ShadPS4 has just released its version 0.12.6 update, which significantly boosts performance and makes the emulator a lot more accessible for those running it on less powerful hardware (including the Steam Deck).

YouTuber Tabenero shared a side-by-side comparison of the performance of Bloodborne within the emulator, and it's considerably more stable, hovering around 70 to 90fps for the majority of the playthrough, with lows of around 55fps.

Deck Wizard also took the update to his Steam Deck, to see how the handheld kept up with the game, and there are major improvements there as well. The game bottomed out at between 30 and 40fps, though it usually hit 60fps aside from in very demanding moments.

The thing to remember is that PS4 is a relatively new field when compared to efforts with other, older consoles. The next few years should see great strides in our ability to consistently emulate games from the PS4, giving us PC players something to do until FromSofware announces the sequel.

The only major stumbling block to giving it a try is that the emulator itself can be a bit of a nightmare to install and get running properly. There are some solid guides online though, so check one of those out if you're thinking of playing Bloodborne on PC.
