Bloodborne on PC Is the Perfect Way To Kick-Off the New Year

Happy new year, folks!

It’s a brand new year, folks. And while you may want to spend your New Year’s Day spending time with family or enjoying the festivities, there are also plenty of video games to be enjoyed.

It’s around this time of year that I always like to kick back with an old favourite, and if there’s anything that’s proven to be absolutely timeless, it’s Bloodborne.

Well, it’s any FromSoftware game really, but considering Bloodborne’s legacy as the oft-forgotten sibling of Dark Souls, I’ll take any excuse to replay it.

The reason Bloodborne sometimes gets missed is down to accessibility really. It’s a game you can only play on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 (via backwards compatibility), as it was a Sony exclusive released during a time where the company wasn’t interested in bringing its games to PC.

What’s worse, it’s also only available to play in 30fps and 1080p on console. If you can get over the initial hurdle of playing it on a lower framerate and resolution, it’s genuinely one of the best games ever made. But it really deserves a new-gen release on PC and PS5 to truly shine.

Here's Bloodborne Running On A PC

One user has demonstrated Bloodborne running on PC via a PS4 emulator called ShadPS4, essentially allowing them to play the game at higher framerates and resolutions using their PC.

The clip shared by X (formerly Twitter) user Rock Solid shows the player fighting Ludwig, the Holy Blade, a boss who appears in The Old Hunters DLC.

“I can literally not overstate just how well this Emulator runs Bloodborne at this point,” they wrote. “I got to beat the entire game at 1440p 144fps with little to no issues. Even my buddy on a 1080 was able to run it at 60FPS.”

Obviously, you’ll need to legally own a disc copy of Bloodborne on PS4 to play this. If you can dump the contents of the disc onto a PC, you’ll be able to play it via ShadPS4 and squeeze more performance out of the game.

ShadPS4 recently hit an impressive milestone by getting online functionality into Bloodborne. As we reported yesterday, the emulator’s new online features include being able to read messages from other players, search for Chalice Dungeons, and spot other players’ ghosts.

However, it seems like co-op gameplay is not yet fully functional. The ShadPS4 has teased that this will be coming in a future update, but given the amount of work involved I’d say it’s pretty impressive the project alone got this far.
