The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is set for launch on November 5 2026 and will welcome players back to a familiar, but new, version of Hyrule.
It’s the talk of the town here at GAMINGbible and we’re all super excited to jump in, although this blast from the past has somehow got us thinking more about the future.
Now that we know Ocarina of Time is getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch 2, it begs the question: what Zelda game is getting the remake treatment next? Many are automatically assuming it’ll be The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, but I think they’re dead wrong.
Why The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past remake makes more sense for Nintendo
It’s easy to see why fans are guessing Majora’s Mask is next. It was the game that came directly after Ocarina of Time, and comes next in the timeline.

However, I think if Nintendo’s going to remake any game next, it’ll be one of the more traditional top-down adventures, specifically The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

The last time a Zelda game in that style was released was 2024’s The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. It was a great game, and a fun twist on the formula by letting Zelda finally be the main playable protagonist. There was a limitation though, as Zelda’s gameplay had to be adjusted so that it was bespoke to Link's.
So when you really think about it, the last time we had a proper top-down Zelda game was 2019’s remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. That’s over seven years ago.
Another 3D Zelda game isn’t a dealbreaker by any means, but they do say variety is the spice of life and I’d imagine Nintendo believes that too.
But why A Link to the Past though over all other Zelda games? Well, like Ocarina of Time, it’s widely regarded as the best in its class.
Fantastic dungeons, formidable bosses, and an open-world that feels like it’s just the right size. Then the mad lads stick a second map over the top of it via The Dark World.
The other drawback is when you look at the game retrospectively it does feel very linear. The Zelda games did become linear over time, but they usually spliced in enough side-content to make it feel like a bespoke adventure.
That’s another reason why a remake would be a phenomenal idea; you can make it feel fresh again. Mix up the key item locations and let you tackle some of the dungeons in your own order and you’d be instantly onto a winner.
The only thing I’m on the fence about is the art style. I’m quite fond of what Nintendo went for with Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom, but I think for A Link to the Past, I’d want something a little more in-line with the game’s official artwork. We’re already seeing quite a bold art style with the Ocarina of Time remake and I’d be keen to see something just as striking for A Link to the Past.
Of course, I’ve got no insider knowledge. Nintendo could be doing a remake of the CD-i games next for all we know. I just think it’d be nice to get another top-down Zelda game since we haven’t seen one in a while.
