Zelda fans surprised with free downloads you can claim through October

Surprise, surprise

The time is finally upon us; a new Legend of Zelda game is here, and with it comes a surprise batch of free downloads for October.

In case you’ve been living in a cave or generally avoiding the internet, we’re here to remind you that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been released.

Ready to be a princess in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

Some of you will have already played it thanks to an unfortunate leak of the game mere days before its launch.

However, if you’ve yet to play it you’re in for a treat.

As our very own Ewan Moore can attest, it’s a “royal success” that many fans will adore.

“It may have taken nearly four decades, but the first mainline Zelda game with the titular princess in the lead role was worth the wait,” reads the review.

To celebrate the grand debut of Zelda as the main character in the franchise named after her, Nintendo has surprised fans with a series of free downloads available throughout October.

A total of four waves of freebies can be claimed until the 23 Oct.

As you may have already guessed, the free downloads are some shiny new Nintendo Switch Online icons based on the newly launched title.

Even though Zelda is the lead in Echoes of Wisdom, you can still grab yourself a mini Link icon if you’re missing our hero in green.

Fans have been waiting for these icons to drop, and from what we’ve seen so far, nobody is disappointed by what’s on offer.

“YESSSSS FINALLY” said @kristanovva on Twitter.

Someone else posted, “All waves are epic, but my favourite has to be Link and Zelda.”

Eight different icons are available, with them releasing in batches of two each wave. The first wave is now available, but if you don’t like them, you only have to wait until the 2 Oct before the next wave drops.
