breaking news

This year's Pokémon Presents ended with the announcement that we were all waiting for, the reveal of Gen 10.
As leakers predicted, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will soon be coming our way. Well, I say soon, but they're both going to arrive globally in 2027.
The gorgeous new trailer showcased a sprawling island world, with beaches, jungles, and quaint little settlements to explore.
I have to say, on first impression, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves look like a real step up, perhaps as they'll exclusively be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The trailer ended with the reveal that always generates a ton of debate. Yes, we now know who our starter 'mon are.
Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua Are Our 3 Starters - And The Reaction Is Mixed
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will introduce Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua.
Browt is quite clearly our grass type. He's somewhat of an owl looking fellow. He looks polite and, weirdly, also quite intelligent? I can't be the only one getting that vibe.

Then, there's Pombon - a fire type who, sorry to Browt and Gecqua, has already stolen my heart. Part dog, part lion. I can't explain the make-up of this creature; all I know is that I would do anything to protect it.

Finally, there's Gecqua - inspired by a gecko, I'm imagining. This one's a water type who is perhaps a tad lacking on the cute scale. He looks serious. I'm sure he's a pleasant guy though.

I know this is about starters but can we please also take a moment to appreciate those Pikachu fashionistas that kicked the trailer off? Yes, yes, yes.
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves didn't announce a launch date beyond 2027, but I do wonder if they'll target summer given just how tropical the game's reveal trailer is.
You can see how a marketing campaign held during this time of year would match up with the overall feeling of the game.
I digress though. Already online, people are debating which is Gen 10's best starter 'mon.
"These gotta be the ugliest trio of Pokémon starters we’ve ever gotten," said one Twitter/X user. "The dog‘s back hurts from carrying this trio."
"I don't care. I'm picking the fire dog," added another.
"Nah I kinda f**k with the gecko," is a comment that made me chuckle.
"The dog’s cute, but the other two look like Temu Rowlet and Sobble," someone said.
Well, the starter line-up may not have blown everyone away but overall, the reception to Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves looks positive. We'll be following its progress very closely.
