Pokémon's latest release already embroiled in controversy

What a polarising turn of events

Given the popularity of Pokémon, many would assume The Pokémon Company is prepared for the influx of interest when a new release is scheduled.

However, the controversy currently surrounding the company and its famed franchise suggests otherwise, rather shockingly.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game is due to launch a new set, Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions, on 17 January.

Newness is also coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket.

This should be exciting news, especially as it gives fan-favourite Eevee special attention.

However, the high demand for the set has retailers concerned that they won’t be able to meet the demand of customers.

Consequently, The Pokémon Company has addressed its community, though what’s been said has far from appeased them.

“We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokemon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to acknowledge this,” the statement reads.

“Reprinted products are expected to be available at participating retailers as soon as possible to help ensure more fans receive opportunities to access Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions.”

Naturally, fans have some thoughts on this update, chiefly wondering if region exclusivity will come into play with reprints.

User @POKEMILLON said, “That's great news! I really hope it doesn't end up being a limited print run restricted to the United States but rather a massive reprint, similar to what we saw with Shining Fates.”

“The issue itself won’t be the reprint, but no limitations by retailers,” argued @LelouchsROR.

“We need those printers running day and night!!” declared @poke_dimitri.

It seems anything less than that will result in some kind of ire. In fact, there’s already ire over preorders of the set, as some report the product hasn't been shipped yet – there’s only a couple of days before launch.

We can be sure that this isn’t the last we’ve heard about this set, nor the controversy it’s caused.
