Announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, Pokémon Pokopia is getting a free content update and new details on its upcoming paid content have also been announced.
Pokémon Pokopia was released on the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, and was instantly considered to be one of the best games on the new Nintendo hybrid console, with many praising its Animal Crossing and Minecraft inspiration.
The new content update takes us beneath the sea to explore until our heart is content, courtesy of the new diving ability. Best of all, not only can you explore under the sea, but you can build a new home, create a garden, even a town, and interact with some of your favourite Pokémon.
While no set release date has been announced, we do know that this sizable free content update will arrive sometime in August via a system update, so no need to download any additional DLC. The free content update looks like something you’d have to pay for, so this will no doubt be welcome news for the Pokémon community.

The paid DLC, which is part of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, will see Part 1 of the content, ‘Bubble Basin’, also arriving in August 2026. Part 2, arriving in late 2026, will bring “additional features” and Part 3, coming in 2027, will feature an additional new town.
Sadly, details on that content are very vague right now, and we wish Nintendo had provided more details during the Direct event, but we’ll let you know if we learn more.
“There’s no one reason why Pokémon Pokopia is so special; this game is a sum of its parts, without a single weak link in the chain,” said GAMINGbible’s Kate in her review. “It’s a title that offers a unique spin on the cosy formula, made all the more magical by the familiarity of this wonderful franchise. Pokémon Pokopia is a true adventure that boasts a refreshing sense of freedom.

“Totally devoid of grind, this experience rewards the curious with heaps of content on offer. You’ll be hard pressed to put it down, and it's certainly a title that we’ll all be discussing when this year’s GOTY discussion rolls around.”
Pokémon Pokopia is out now on the Nintendo Switch 2.
