Pokémon fans have just discovered that we got a good look at Cubone’s real face from a bunch of official sources a long time ago, although you’d be forgiven for not finding out sooner considering none of said sources are from the Nintendo games.

The folks who cook up the official Pokémon lore are, frankly, some sick freaks.

Drifloon tries to steal children away from their parents by carrying them into the sky. Hattrem hunts down sad people and beats the ever living snot out of them. Typhlosion loves to-- actually, nevermind, you can look that one up for yourself.

Yet even with all of these new, twisted, downright messed up backstories, the writers never managed to top how incredibly depressing Cubone’s lore is.

These little guys are literally just born sad. Every single piece of media you see them in, they’re either crying or moping around… assumedly because they watched their mothers die and decided to wait for their corpses to slowly decay so they could pilfer their skulls to wear as hats.

Y’know, that part of the Cubone lore always confused me. You’re telling me EVERY Cubone does that? There’s not a single one out there that decided not to wear its mother’s remains as a helmet?

Well, if there is one… it would probably look a lot like this.

As user Collector55 states in their post, the images featured all come from official sources, and their rendition of an unmasked Cubone all look identical, too.

Well, to be fair it’s not exactly like they pushed the boat out on the design or anything. The Cubones look exactly how you’d expect them to, which now that I think about it… is basically just what Charmander looks like. Huh.

I wonder if that means that Cubones are just Charmanders that– no, that’s ridiculous, right? Yeah. Surely. Unless…
