Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Remakes Finally Fixed for Nintendo Switch 2

Crashes are a thing of the past

Confirmation has landed at long last. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl should now run nicely on Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.

The titles, which can be purchased via the Nintendo eShop, have struggled with compatibility issues since the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch in June of last year.

Mainly, players experienced crashing across the game via backwards compatability, so it wasn’t exactly something fans could easily find a workaround for.

Thankfully though, the problem has been officially addressed, as spotted by NintendoEverything.

The crashing has been fixed via a new Nintendo Switch 2 system update, rather than an update pertaining to the games themselves.

Nintendo Switch 2 Version 21.2.0 Has Arrived, Get Downloading

System Update Version 21.2.0 is what you’ll want to look out for, although it should automatically download upon booting up your Nintendo Switch 2 device.

If you’re ever unsure, navigating to the console’s settings will reveal which version of Nintendo’s software you’re running.

The update’s patch notes were incredibly brief and simple.

“General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience,” they read.

Seriously, that was it. There was no mention of the improvements made to backwards compatibility, but it’s certainly been noticed by fans.

“Let’s goooooooo,” read one reply to NintendoEverything’s story on Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Another user joked, “Yes, I can now play the worst mainline Pokémon games.”

I’m not about to enter that debate.

I can, however, tell you that it’s a major year for the Pokémon franchise, as I’m sure you’re aware.

On 27 February, Pokémon will celebrate its 30th anniversary as it reflects back on the original release date of Pokémon Red and Green in 1996.

Of course, Pokémon Day brings with it a slew of announcements, and fans have major expectations for what’ll be revealed this year given the anniversary.

It’s very likely that we’ll finally hear about Gen 10, believed to be called Wind and Waves.

Don’t forget that Pokémon Champions is also set to land this year. It’s been quite a long time since an update dropped on that title.

We have Pokémon Pokopia arriving in just a few months time too, although we’ve seen plenty of that one in action already.

You can never have too much Pokémon, or at least that’s what I believe.

It goes without saying that on Pokémon Day, we’ll bring you all of the latest announcements so stay tuned for that.
