Super Mario fans might want to claim these free Nintendo downloads right now to avoid disappointment.

If you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online, along with online multiplayer, you can also enjoy the added benefit of playing retro games from the NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, GBA and even SEGA Mega Drive eras depending on whether you're a sub to the basic tier or the Expansion Pass.

Check out the Super Mario Bros. Wonder trailer below!

What’s more, if you do subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion, you can also claim major DLC content for the likes of Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Splatoon 3 and more at no extra cost.

However, it doesn't matter which of the two Nintendo Switch Online tiers you subscribe to, because all subscribers are eligible to claim these Super Mario freebies. But you don’t have long to make them yours.

As brought to our attention by the Twitter account NSO Icon Alerts, the freebies in question are Nintendo Switch Online icons and along with a subscription, you will need some Platinum coins to spend.

Acquiring Platinum coins, Nintendo's free currency, is simple as they only require you to fill out quick surveys sent to you by Nintendo or are achieved by completing easy missions via MyNintendo.com. Platinum coins can not only be used to purchase free icons but also limited physical items.

There is a secondary Gold currency which is earned by either purchasing games via the digital Nintendo eShop or by registering Nintendo Switch game cartridges via the console dashboard. Gold currency can then be redeemed for discounts against purchases made on the eShop.

You can access the free icons via the Nintendo Switch home screen by going to ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ and then selecting the ‘Missions & Rewards’ section. Depending on which icons you choose, they will cost five or 10 Platinum coins.

This batch of Super Mario-themed icons will only be available until 3 February 2025 when the next rotation arrives.
