Nintendo Switch gamers can claim some free downloads related to one of the best games of its generation, but you don't have long to claim them.

Released in 1996, the Nintendo 64 is one of the most beloved consoles of all time and not even its funky controller design was enough to put off gamers (I loved it by the way). The N64 has given us some absolute classics such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, WWF No Mercy, and GoldenEye 007 to name a few.

Another Nintendo 64 classic is Super Mario 64, a true pioneer in helping to evolve the 2D platformer genre into 3D. Nearly three decades later, Super Mario 64 is a highly enjoyable game to this very day, which is a testament to how well-developed this beloved retro classic is.

Over the years, we’ve seen various releases of Super Mario 64, the latest official release being part of 2020’s Super Mario 3D All-Stars on the Nintendo Switch which also included Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy.

We’re sure that it won't be the last of Super Mario 64 and maybe, one day, we’ll get an official remake from Nintendo built from the ground up. In the meantime, Switch gamers can claim these glorious Super Mario 64 icons for free.

As brought to our attention by the Twitter account NSO Icon Alerts, you can claim free Super Mario 64 Nintendo Switch profile icons but you don't have long to acquire them with your Platinum coin currency.

You can access the free icons via the Nintendo Switch home screen by going to ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ and then selecting the ‘Missions & Rewards’ section. Depending on which icons you choose, they will cost five or 10 Platinum coins, Nintendo's free rewards currency.

The Super Mario 64 icons will only be available until 31 March 2024 and you will need a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack to claim them.
