Nintendo Switch users have some Mario-themed freebies to claim, but as usual, you don’t have long to claim them.

The Super Mario series has been pretty quiet as of late but that’s not a big deal as we’re on the cusp of a proper announcement when the next Nintendo Direct rolls around.

The next scheduled Direct will show off the Nintendo Switch 2, but chances are there’ll be some game announcements too, hopefully anyway

In the meantime, there is some Mario content to enjoy, though that's only icons for your Nintendo Switch profiles I’m afraid.

All Nintendo Switch users will know the deal by now. These icons are available on the Nintendo Switch Online part of your console and cost you Platinum Points, a free currency earned through completing challenges.

You can create your own images with them but only when they’re part of the same series, a bit disappointing considering we used to create Miis on previous consoles which had way more customisation than we do now.

The current line-up of icons consists of four Mario games, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

They’re available to claim until 3 February upon which they’ll be replaced by something else, but they usually come back at some point so don’t feel bad if you miss them this time around.

If they don’t interest you at all though, I’d save your Platinum Points as they can be used on the Nintendo website for actual, physical goodies alongside anything else you purchase, and the range is quite impressive.

Hopefully the Nintendo Switch 2 gives us an overhaul for our profile customisation, as more often than not people can’t even see your current icons and even when they can, there isn’t really much to look at. It could do with a refresh.
