Fans have discovered that the Nintendo Switch 2 hides a cute little Nintendo GameCube secret, one that was definitely found by complete accident.
If you ever owned a Nintendo GameCube back in the day, the little jingle that plays when it boots up is probably etched into your soul. I could be half way through doing my taxes and I’d still sit upright like the Manchurian Candidate if I heard that iconic medley.
That’s why it’s kind of surprising that when you boot up the Nintendo GameCube Classics app on your Nintendo Switch 2, you’re treated to the sound of… what I think is a sound clip from Mario Sunshine?

Well, what if I told you that, if you instead hold left on any controller while the app boots up, you’ll instead be treated to the classic Nintendo GameCube boot up screen in all of its glory (credit to user ApprehensiveShip4968 over on the r/NintendoSwitch subreddit for finding this).
The thing is, that’s the default Nintendo GameCube start up screen, but there were a few different alternate start-up screens you could trigger on original GameCube hardware by doing something similar.
So, this is a reference that’s actually a reference in itself, in a way? Which makes it all the more funny that one of the alternate start-up screens for the original GameCube can also be triggered through the Nintendo GameCube Classics app too (credit to IGN for that one).
That also means that, as of writing, we’re actually missing one of the original alternate boot up screens. More specifically, the alternate one that could be triggered when holding down the Z button on four separate GameCube controllers at the same time.

I wonder if that means this could be triggered in the same way, but nobody has tried it yet? Or I wonder if that means nobody can afford four controllers, due to the fact they had to spend all their extra money on Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.
