The Nintendo Switch 2 is here, finally, and fans are having fun playing Mario Kart World and digging through the system to see what it can really do.
However, as with so much new technology, the Nintendo Switch 2 has had a few hiccups after getting into the hands of players, one of which is dead Joy Cons - the last thing anyone needs.
It seems that several players have complained of their Joy Cons running out of power and essentially bricking themselves, unable to charge.

One of these players has created a thread on Reddit to warn others, and also urge everyone to update the Joy Cons as soon as possible.
It’s not like the good old days when you just plugged a controller into your console, and it only housed some buttons and maybe a rumble pack.
Nowadays, these controllers are filled to the brim with different technology to immerse you in the games you play.
This means your controllers need updating just as much as the console itself.

LunchPlanner explains in their thread, “It's possible that updating your Joy Cons in the Settings menu immediately after initial setup will allow you to fix this bug before the Joy Con dies. Once it dies, you won't be able to update it or recharge it, so you'll be stuck like us.”
As the thread unfolds, they also explain how to actually force an update to your Joy Cons, saying, “From the home menu, go to settings, then controllers, then update controllers. I think you'll want to be in handheld mode with the Joy Cons attached.”
They further edited the original post to say that the “Joy Con Charge Grip can be used to resuscitate a dead Joy Con,” which would allow for charging again.
It’s probably best to update your controllers now, just to err on the side of caution.
