Great news for people who love one of the greatest Mario games of all time, because Nintendo has just revealed that Super Mario Odyssey is getting a free upgrade on the Nintendo Switch 2 when the console finally drops.
You know, given all of the Nintendo Switch 2 pricing related drama that’s been going on over the past few months, it’s nice to finally write a positive article about Nintendo’s upcoming console for a change.
Sure, it still sucks that they’re pricing certain titles at a premium, it’s still weird that the Welcome Tour tech demo isn’t free, and it’s still bloody downright scummy that they decided to make users pay for certain first-party Nintendo Switch game upgrades but… well, I don’t really have a way to nice way to finish that sentence.

Anyway, onto the positive stuff: a bunch of Nintendo Switch titles are getting free upgrades on the Nintendo Switch 2, including the one and only Super Mario Odyssey.
Over on Nintendo’s official site, they finally revealed some more specifics behind what these upgraded titles will contain, and it sounds like Super Mario Odyssey is getting a lot of love.
The newly update page states that the game will be “optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for improved image quality” and, most importantly, will also be receiving HDR support. This free upgrade will drop in a system update on June 5 too, so it’ll be ready to claim as soon as the console is available.
Personally, this is all great and I’m happy to see a game as brilliant as Super Mario Odyssey is still getting some love but… man, I’m mostly just excited for that free Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet framerate upgrade.

Super Mario Odyssey would still be a banger regardless, but Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet still runs like crap on the Nintendo Switch to this day. That game really, really needs it.
