Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 users can now grab a free download on the house, because why not?
Nintendo is no stranger to handing out freebies to its players from time-to-time, and that hasn’t changed going into the Switch 2’s lifecycle.
A lot of this new content comes via Nintendo Switch Online which, okay, yes it requires an active subscription, so you still need to pay for it. But it comes as an extra bonus on top of what you really pay for.
Following his recent return in the well-received Donkey Kong Bananza, DK is getting his own event in Tetris 99.

This weekend, the Nintendo Switch Online battle royale game Tetris 99 will be hosting a special 48th Maximus Cup event, featuring special art, music and designs inspired by Donkey Kong Bananza.
You’ll be able to unlock the special freebies once you’ve accumulated 100 event points, at which point the art, music, and designs will become available to you.
Here's a trailer so you can see what the new event looks like.

The 48th Maximus Cup will be held between 1st and 4th August, 2025. So you’ll have time to play over the weekend if you want to get some time in.
Tetris 99 is available with any Nintendo Switch Online membership, across both the original Switch and Switch 2 consoles.
Donkey Kong Bananza marks DK’s big return since 2014. If we don’t count remakes and remasters, the last major game in the franchise was Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, which released over a decade ago.
If you haven’t had a chance to play it yet, here’s what we had to say about it in our review: “All in all Donkey Kong Bananza is another splendid technical playground from the Super Mario Odyssey team. It's redesigned and reinvigorated Donkey Kong to marvellous effect, and that's coming from someone who was a big fan of Rare's version of the character.”
