Nintendo has put an interesting feature in the Nintendo Switch 2, which will hopefully keep the internal battery happy and healthy for as long as possible.
There’s a common belief that you should always charge your digital batteries, whether it be in your phone, game console, whatever, to around 90% and no further. It’s believed leaving your device plugged in when it’s already charged can be harmful to the battery, meaning it won’t last as long.
The Nintendo Switch 2, the genius bit of kit that it is, apparently has a feature to circumvent this issue
Users can select a setting that forces charging to slow down once the console hits 90%, hopefully improving the longevity of the system.

Given how you’ll likely want to take the Nintendo Switch 2 away with you in handheld mode this is a great feature to have, especially if you need to charge it for long trips.
Now the belief in stopping your charge at 90% is a bit of an argued one as many believe it doesn’t make a difference, but companies are adopting this practise going forward regardless, Nintendo included.
If you don’t think it matters and you’re happy for your Nintendo Switch 2 to hit 100% charge before unplugging it you can still do so, just don’t switch on the setting.
So far the Nintendo Switch 2 is looking like a marvel in terms of hardware, with that 120fps handheld screen, joycons that can be used as a mouse for first-person games, and of course the new game-sharing feature that makes it easier to lend games to your friends.

This additional setting just feels like icing on the cake, but the console is yet to release so we’ll get a better idea of how well it functions when it launches in June of this year.
