Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom announced, with Zelda as playable character

We get to play as Princess Zelda!

Nintendo has announced that a new entry in The Legend of Zelda series is coming to the Nintendo Switch and it’s being released sooner than we might think.

The surprise reveal was made during today’s Nintendo Direct online event and the new entry in The Legend of Zelda series has a similar visual presentation to the Link’s Awakening remake for the Nintendo Switch in 2019, which we love to see. And this time, rather than playing as Link, we can now play as Princess Zelda and we’re all for it.

Check out The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom trailer below!

At first, perhaps taking inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake, it might have been safe to assume that Echoes of Wisdom could have been a full remake of SNES classic A Link to the Past which was released in 1993. Alas, this is a totally new game in The Legend of Zelda series and we couldn't be more excited.

This will surely come as great news for Hyrule adventurers who are still eagerly awaiting new remasters of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Switch, both of which were released on the Nintendo GameCube as well as for the Wii U. Though for now, we’ll happily accept The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, because it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Hopefully, before the year is over, we’ll not only get the Nintendo Switch ports of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess but also new DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed. Wishful thinking? Maybe.

“It's up to Princess Zelda to save Hyrule in a brand-new The Legend of Zelda story,” reads the brief description of the game. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on 26 September 2024.
