Elden Ring fans shocked by wild new 2025 release

Become an Elden Lord on a brand new system

A port of FromSoftware's 2022 mega-hit Elden Ring just got announced for the last system we expected: the Nintendo Switch 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2-centric Nintendo Direct has already showed off a bunch of stuff, from new games to new specs, and even its release date.

But I don't think any of us were prepared for the first of their third-party announcements, as Nintendo and FromSoftware revealed that they're teaming up to bring Elden Ring to the Nintendo Switch 2.

The trailer didn't show off much, but it did give away two pretty huge pieces of info: the port is officially named Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and it'll be landing on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.

Assumedly, by calling it the "Tarnished Edition", they mean that the Nintendo Switch 2 port will come packaged alongside the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but we'll have to wait for official confirmation before we can say for sure.

This is only the second FromSoftware game to make it to a Nintendo console, following the release of Dark Souls Remastered on the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Mario Kart World was also unveiled.

Unfortunately, the trailer only specifically made mention of the Nintendo Switch 2, so it seems like previous generation Nintendo Switch owners are outta luck if they're not planning on upgrading.

No word on exactly when in 2025 that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will be dropping on the Nintendo Switch 2, but considering they didn't make a point of advertising the fact, I think it's highly likely that it's not going to be a launch title.

This does make a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Elden Ring Nightreign a lot more likely, however, considering that it's running on the same engine as the original Elden Ring and using a lot of its assets.

If FromSoftware was able to make a port of Elden Ring run smoothly on the Nintendo Switch 2, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be able to get a port of Elden Ring Nightreign onto the system too.

We'll keep you updated if we hear any new info about the Nintendo Switch 2 port.
