Nintendo Switch 2 gamers who were hoping to get 2023’s RPG darling Baldur’s Gate 3 on the system have just been delivered disappointing news.
Arguably the biggest game of 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a resounding success on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in the years since launch.
Nintendo gamers were hopeful the game could come to Nintendo Switch, though the rather weak power of the hardware made that reality pretty much impossible.
However, the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 last year made fans hopeful once again that the game could come to the hardware. However, those hopes have been dashed following new comments from Larian Studios.

In a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on the Games page, one fan asked if Baldur’s Gate 3 would be coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
Larian’s CEO Swen Vincke responded to the question denying that a Switch 2 version is in the works, writing: “We would have loved to but it wasn't our decision to make.”
Vincke implies that the decision lies with Wizards of the Coast or Hasbro, the current IP holders of Dungeons & Dragons and the Baldur’s Gate series.

Baldur's Gate 3 Will Not Be Coming To Nintendo Switch Or Nintendo Switch 2
Industry insider NateTheHate2 has elaborated on this, saying that Larian’s relationship with Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro is “not healthy” following Baldur’s Gate 3’s post-launch.

Indeed, in the same AMA, Vincke also revealed in another comment that Larian was, at one point, conceptualising another Dungeons & Dragons game following the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, but “that ship has sailed.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on PC in August 2023, coming to PS5 later that September, and Xbox Series X/S in December.
The game had record-breaking success in 2023 and 2024, winning Game of the Year in many different award shows, and plenty of publications naming it as their favourite release of the year.
It even made it onto our own Top 10 of that year, ultimately coming in second place behind The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Larian is now working on Divinity, the next game in the studio’s own original IP. The Divinity series hasn’t been seen since 2017’s Divinity: Original Sin 2.
The upcoming sequel has been described by Larian as “our biggest, most ambitious RPG yet,” and will release in early access at an unspecified date.
