ARC Raiders is unexpectedly playable on one of Nintendo’s most popular pieces of hardware, and to pull this off is pure wizardry.
Video game technology has never been better than what it is today. Graphics can blur the lines between video games and reality. Framerates can achieve high speeds, worlds are far more immersive, and the storytelling of a well-produced video game could even surpass anything that the glitz and glamour of Hollywood throws our way.
However, modern-day technology also makes it possible that one of 2025’s best games can run on Nintendo hardware that is over 15 years old. Well, I say “run”, we’re not sure how well this game actually runs, but the fact that it’s on this hardware to begin with is an achievement in itself.
“Stay out of Stella tonight,” declared Redditor YeezysKanye2020, referring to one of ARC Raider’s most infamous areas, while sharing an image of the extraction shooter on a Nintendo 3DS.
While no gameplay clips were shared revealing how well ARC Raiders runs on the Nintendo 3DS, the Redditor in the thread claimed to have it running up to 120fps, and can sync a Steam controller to the console to play the game.

YeezysKanye2020 also explains that all this is possible by streaming ARC Raiders from the desktop using a GeForce RTX 5070 and Moonlight, a third-party streaming client.
However, the Reddit user did suggest that while the game is running fine, the controls are a bit awkward, which makes sense, considering that the game was never intended to be played this way.
“Hilariously cursed,” replied PM_ME_YOUR_GREENERY.
“Bloody witchcraft,” exclaimed Forcer222.
Hopefully, YeezysKanye2020 might at least record some off-cam footage of ARC Raiders running on the Nintendo 3DS, because I think we’d all love to see it.
“In ARC Raiders, gameplay flows between the surface ruled by lethal machines and the vibrant underground society of Speranza,” reads the synopsis of the game. “Craft, repair, and upgrade your gear in the safety of your own workshop, before venturing topside to scavenge the remnants of a devastated but beautiful world.
“Play solo or in parties up to three, navigating the constant threat of ARC's machines and the unpredictable choices of fellow survivors. In the end, only you decide what kind of Raider you are - and how far you’ll go to prevail.”
ARC Raiders is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S (but not the Nintendo 3DS).
