Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the Nintendo Switch’s most successful releases but many of us have seemingly missed a brand-new update arriving to the Switch successor.
First released back in 2020 and being many people’s lifeline during the COVID-19 pandemic, Animal Crossing: New Horizons kept millions of us connected when it launched on the Nintendo Switch 2.
As the fifth main instalment in the Animal Crossing franchise, players from all over the world returned to the social simulation game to create their very own island, befriend villagers and, of course, make use of the social aspects by visiting friends online.
However, Nintendo stopped adding updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons following its Happy Home Paradise DLC which left many fans both heartbroken and frustrated.

Nevertheless, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available on the brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 and an update was recently released with many of us not even noticing.
On the official Nintendo website, it offers a step-by-step guide on how to update New Horizons for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
“On June 18, 2025, a new software update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons became available for download.
Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console is connected to the Internet,” the post reads.

Instructions on how to update the game can be found via that link but ultimately, the patch works on a series of minor bug fixes so don’t expect any new content.
News of the surprise update broke over on r/NintendoSwitch and fans were quick to share their thoughts.
“Come on Nintendo, give me 60fps on AC:NH on the Switch 2 already,” the top comment read.
It seems as though a 60fps update is what the fans are calling out for but if it does not arrive for AC:NH, let us hope it is at least available when and if the next Animal Crossing instalment is ever released.
