Animal Crossing: New Horizons has crossed the NSFW barrier after an unsavoury, but humorous island was banned by Nintendo.
When it comes to being a wholesome series, it doesn't get much more wholesome than Nintendo’s Animal Crossing. This cosy social sim series began its life on the Nintendo GameCube all the way back in 2001.
Back then, I think the series was a little more niche than it is today, and while that remains true, Animal Crossing as a franchise is certainly more popular today than it’s ever been.

Arguably, a big reason why the series has more fans than ever is thanks to 2020’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch. This game was released during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, when people were feeling the strain of mass isolation.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons couldn't have been released at a more perfect time. It not only helped friends stay connected in a fun way by exploring their dream tropical island, but it also helped connect new friends all over the world.
I would guess that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was even an introduction to the series for many gamers. Heck, even I gave it a go. While the game wasn't my cup of tea, I could instantly see why so many had fallen for its charm.
The New-Gen Animal Crossing: New Horizons Upgrade Has Arrived
Recently, Animal Crossing: New Horizons received update 3.0 in celebration of its new Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade. In case you’re wondering, to claim the new-gen upgrade it costs a modest £4.19/$4.99.

The free update available on both generation Switch consoles makes a host of quality of life improvements, adds a new Resort Hotel, new crafting items and more.
So, with the Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade and the free Update 3.0 content update, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has had a surge of players coming back to the game. With that, an NSFW island has been discovered and is now banned.
As brought to our attention by GameRant, amazingly, the island in question has existed for about five years. Basically, since the original launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The island in question was created by a Japanese player and features a lot of 18-rated humour. Which isn't exactly the most savoury family-friendly content the series is known for.
The island features strip clubs, brothels, a love hotel, and male statues with everything hanging out. It's art!

To be honest, I can see why this island has been banned (even if it had taken half a decade), but I can see the funny side, and it looks straight out of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon playbook.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
