Animal Crossing Gamers Losing It Over New Announcements

Is no news good news?

After the most recent Nintendo Direct, Animal Crossing fans were left wanting, with no new game on the horizon.

Plenty of other Nintendo games got a share of the spotlight, with the likes of Mario, Zelda, and even the heroes of Fire Emblem appearing.

However, there was nothing, not even a glimpse of the next Animal Crossing instalment.

Of course, not everything is ready to be shown to the public, and it’s highly likely that Nintendo is busy working on the Switch 2 game.

It has however been some time since Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game that got everyone through the 2020 worldwide pandemic.

Over on Reddit, fans are expressing their sadness and frustrations concerning the lack of any new game.

“I’m so bummed,” said the creator of the thread, “They’re releasing tons of games with the exact same concept as Animal Crossing, but we don’t get a new version? Nothing at all?”

The top reply to this lays out the situation simply, saying, “Tomodachi Life is coming out next spring. A new Animal Crossing game would eat into the sales of that. There's no way Nintendo would self-sabotage like that.”

This is almost certainly the reason why Nintendo is holding back. Surely, once hype for Tomodachi Life has died down, we will likely see a tease for the next Animal Crossing game.

It’s also worth remembering, we’re not even six months into the life of the Switch 2, there are only so many first-party titles that will arrive soon.

As another user points out, there is another game that will eat into the same fanbase of Animal Crossing, noting that “Pokémon Pokopia” will have crossover potential.

That doesn’t alleviate sadness, and as many admit, they’re holding off from buying a Switch 2 until a new Animal Crossing game arrives, as this user notes, “I know I'm not the only one waiting to buy a switch 2 until a new Animal Crossing.”
