There’s nothing we love more than having something forced upon us, it’s like our favourite thing. Oh wait, it isn’t the same for you? That’s strange because someone clearly didn’t give Microsoft this memo as they’re starting to force Bing onto users.
As someone who uses a Macbook, this isn’t a problem I’ve encountered myself. However, just the thought of having a search engine shoved in my face when I specifically don’t want to use it annoys me.
Let's watch something positive about Microsoft with this flight sim!
The news of Microsoft’s overzealous ways comes from an article at The Verge, in which writer Tom Warren speaks of this evil new pop-up that's ignoring their malware software. When they reached out to Microsoft, its director of communications had this to say, “We are aware of these reports and have paused this notification while we investigate and take appropriate action to address this unintended behaviour.”

Here’s the thing, though, this issue has been going on for a while now, as Reddit is here to remind us. Labelled as an “aggressive advertisement”, users were raging at this invasive advert that sent them into a panic. “What is Microsoft playing at?! I don't even use Chrome, and I've never seen Comodo throw up all over a legitimate Windows Update before. That's 30 minutes of stress I could've done without on my day off. Have deleted the file, let's see if it stays that way,” said Psyfira.
To add insult to injury, it seems that even if you find the file and delete it, it comes back with vengeance to wreak havoc once more. “My housemate had this show up on their computer roughly a month and a half ago; I was able to delete it (It was in c drive/ windows/temp) But then not even a few days ago it had reinstalled itself onto their computer somehow; Then I found it in cdrive/windows/system32. So Idk what’s the go with it,” revealed user MassiveAccount3186.
Microsoft is really all about spoiling things at the minute, first this and now Starfield fans experiencing last minute cancellations of a stellar deal. What is going on? Has joy and fun been forbidden?
The message feels clear: Bing or die (okay, Microsoft isn’t killing anything other than spirits, but still). Hopefully this “unintended behaviour” will finally be addressed, but if the long thread of Reddit users is anything to go by, it would seem that Microsoft isn’t in any rush to actually tackle the issue.
