This year might test us in many ways, but it’s also a year filled with surprises – and we’re only at the start of February.

One such surprise that’s garnered much interest is the release of a Far Cry meets Fallout update nobody saw coming.

Far Cry New Dawn, first released in 2019, while not the most beloved in the franchise has plenty of positive reviews to its name.

Boasting “breathtaking” visuals and “unforgettable characters”, it’s a title that’s been described as “the most underrated sequel to the most underrated Far Cry game in the series”.

Imagine our surprise then, when Ubisoft revealed that a 60fps update is coming to the title on the Xbox Series X and Series S.

Given Ubisoft’s social media posts, it wasn’t its intention to reveal the update just yet but rather wait until the title joined Xbox Game Pass.

However, seeing as rumours started to circulate online, the publisher decided to make an official announcement.

“Well… this wasn’t how we planned to announce this. A 60 FPS update is coming to Far Cry New Dawn on Xbox Series X|S! [...] We need to temporarily disable FPS Boost today [...] Thank you for your patience!”

Well… this wasn’t how we planned to announce this. 😅
A 60 FPS update is coming to Far Cry New Dawn on Xbox Series X|S! 🎉 BUT to ensure a smooth roll out, we need to temporarily disable FPS Boost today at 4 PM PST (Feb 1, 0000 UTC). Thank you for your patience!

This has led to fans of other series begging for similar updates to be given to their favourite titles.

What is more, this announcement has also seen people praising Ubisoft and Xbox rather than criticising the two brands.

“Keep these Xbox updates coming, breathing great life into your legacy catalogue giving people new incentives to revisit your titles,” commented @SgtHarvey.

Ubisoft even responded, thanking the user for their kind words.

“Ubisoft is one of best when it comes to support for their games!” declared @TeddyGeeGaming, which, again, makes a nice change when compared to the backlash Ubisoft typically receives.

Not long now until you’ll be able to experience this 60fps update for yourselves.
