Elden Ring's final secret has been unearthed ahead of Shadow Of The Erdtree

Elden Ring's final secret has been unearthed ahead of Shadow Of The Erdtree

Players want to make sure they're going in armed with all the information humanly possible

Nothing compares to rallied gamers; their determination to unearth every nook and cranny of a game is arguably unprecedented. Elden Ring fans are proof of that.

While some fans have merely been soaking up the atmosphere of the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC – like learning that the best boss in the game will be mandatory – others have been searching. Searching for the last secret of the game.

Have you watched the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer yet? You really should

Players were initially unaware that a stone was still left unturned, then Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that something (he didn't disclose what) was still hidden. "For me personally, there is a small element that I feel has not yet been discovered. So, whether that's up to user interpretation or up to further investigation and playing, that's something," he told IGN.

Naturally, gamers couldn't let that secret remain; they needed to find it.

Lo and behold, a "new discovery" has been made since then, seemingly unearthing that final secret Miyazaki alluded to. On a Reddit post, a fan shares an image of the Candletree Wooden Shield, which has the sigil of the Candletree on it. For those who've watched the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer religiously, you'll recognise that sigil because it appeared throughout.

Fans, convinced or not, have taken to discussing this new tidbit of lore in earnest. Some believe it to be the secret that was hinted at, while others think it points in another direction.

There's a lot of lore being dived into on that thread, so proceed with caution, otherwise you may end up falling down the rabbit hole that is Elden Ring. This should give you a little taste: "The fact that the Candletree is described as a 'secret prophecy' I think lends a lot of credence to the idea that Messmer was wiped away from the history of the Lands Between because of his cardinal sin. He's definitely being set up as some sort of anti-christ figure."

Make of that what you will. The important take away here is that the final secret has allegedly been found.
