Cyberpunk 2077 quest gives Geralt and Yen their happily ever after

CD Projekt Red is apparently Team Yennefer, after a cheeky reference to her relationship with Geralt was found in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

While fans unanimously agree that The Witcher is one of the greatest fictional series of all time, the romance options in the third game are still causing arguments to this day.

Take a look at Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty below

Geralt, being the handsome, badass monster-slayer that he is, has the choice of many lovely ladies to call his one true love. The community is divided between Geralt choosing Yennefer or Triss, though it’s often said Geralt and Yennefer share one of gaming’s most romantic stories, so take from that what you will.

Even some celebrities have joined in on the debate, as The Witcher 3 superfan Henry Cavill says he always chooses Yennefer during his playthroughs.

Now, it seems CD Projekt Red has finally put to bed what the correct choice is, and it’s sneakily hidden with the final missions of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

As you approach the end of the expansion, you’re given the choice between who you’d like to side with, Songbird or Reed. The ending is different depending on which character has your loyalty, but if you pick Songbird, you’ll find the reference to The Witcher series.

After choosing your side and beginning the appropriate mission, you can wander down some stairs and find a Data Shard named The Last Wish, the title of the third book in The Witcher series.

Opening it up, it reads: "Ever since we professed our love to each other - up at the very top with a view of the whole world - I knew right then and there that nothing could separate us except death." Obviously a reference to the final part of Yennefer’s romance quest in The Witcher 3.

So there you have it, if there’s any indication as to which side of the romance argument CD Projekt Red is on, this is it, and if the game developers are Team Yennefer, I’d say that’s the correct answer.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is available for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
